My Week of Work Experience at Blu Sky – Alex

I’m in my first year of sixth-form doing business studies at A-level, so coming here for work experience is helpful. I can relate to the work through the topics I study and develop my knowledge to be able to relate back to Blu sky as a business.

Day 1
I was introduced to Receipt Bank, an app which I wasn’t aware of before today, and how this is so much better than a bunch of paperwork and the tedious job of inputting them all into a system.

I started off by watching the system be used and ended up using it myself in no time.

I’ve shadowed for some of today but had some hands-on work; which I didn’t expect to be doing and be trusted to do, which is useful to help me learn about what they do here at Blu Sky.

Day 2
I started my day off using Receipt Bank which I’m quite familiar with now.

Then I was shown Blu Prints, Blu Sky’s forecasting too. I designed and changed an end of year report which was interesting to do. I figured most of it out in no time and used it with ease, and it helped that it was a similar type of formatting to other programmes I’ve used before.

Day 3
I’ve done a lot of different tasks today, and this is massively helping me build on my knowledge of businesses in general and what they must do to avoid being caught out by HMRC, Companies House, and even the law.

Most tasks I was shown how to do, then left to do myself. I caught on quite quickly, but despite this, if I had a problem I always had someone close by that I could ask for help, who was willing to do so, which is always nice and reassuring to have.

I’m really enjoying the fact that every day has been different in its own way. I’ve learnt something new every day.

Day 4
Today is my last day here, I’ve had such an enjoyable week broadening my knowledge of the accounting world.

I came in this morning and set off with my tasks for the day which throughout the week have benefitted me. My week has been very productive and hands on, so I’m glad I came to Blu Sky to say the least.

Overall, I would recommend Blu Sky to anyone looking for work experience that doesn’t just consist of shadowing and doing nothing, but is fun, making you want to get up in the morning to find out what they have in store for you.

Everyone is so friendly and welcoming. During my week, all of the team offered their expertise to help me out and made sure I was okay with the tasks I was doing, which was really reassuring and I hope to return at some point in the future.
