The challenge of app fatigue – and how to beat it

Being able to have your business on your phone has been one of the key shifts for many business owners. What modern startup founders want is to have mobile access to their bank balance, info on who owes them money and which customers they need to chase.

It’s actually changed some clients entire business model, by making them rethink how they work and giving them the incentive to embrace Xero and the huge selection of Xero apps. But diving into the Xero app store does come with a warning…

Beware of app fatigue and the change curve

The Xero app ecosystem we have at the moment is fantastic, but it’s built up to such a point that people are beginning to feel a little bombarded from all directions by the sheer choice of apps.

The temptation when there are over 600+ certified apps to plug in to Xero is to act like a kid in a sweetshop and to try everything. But there’s real value to applying some restraint and assessing the true positive impact that any new app could have.

Getting over the ‘change curve’ is part and parcel of using any new solution, and getting the integration working, overcoming any snags and getting the new processes bedded down can be time-consuming – and ultimately a drain on your productivity.

Helping you integrate the apps that add true value

Our job, as change consultants and Xero integrators, is to highlight how some of these apps are just not worth the hassle, and to help your business assess which apps are actually essential. If the incremental benefits are big enough, and they outweigh the change curve you have to overcome, our role is to work with you to make that change and feel the real value.

So choose your app stack wisely, and come and talk to us about any new software needs you’ve identified in the business. With our expertise within the Xero ecosystem, we can give you an objective and informed overview of the apps that should be on your wish list (and those that should be consigned to the app dustbin).
